1. Just absurdism. And a reflection of internet reposting language.

Colonists going to … North America/the American Plains/ Alaska/Antarctica would face hardship often require reutilizing the material of their transport. This is if the anology and familiar trope carried to moon colonists. Which is absurd as a moon colony would have to be very high-tech and very different.

And it’s a modern internet “rimshot” after telling a joke to say “don’t laugh; this was serious and very dramatic”.

(I imagine it was deadline approaching and everyone is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and the cartoonist thought what if a I wrote about the moon colonist facing the wild animals, hostile indians, and harsh winters that the New world colonists faced….)

  2. That’s odd, I read Zoe’s Tale just yesterday. But I don’t see what either has to do with the comic.

  3. Ah, right. I can’t remember the title or author of the other one, but it was a short story.

  4. Actually the colonists to North American used the abundant wood they found here to build with. The ship(s) had to go back – they were owned by someone after all and could not be taken apart – plus they had to send the sailors back home. They also cut down and sold a lot of the wood they found here as there was a shortage in the old country.

  5. Meryl A: Plus the King of England declared that every tall straight pine tree was his, for masts for the ships of the Royal Navy. Look up the Pine Tree Riot of 1772 in Weare, New Hampshire.
