  1. I thought it would turn out to be a parody of the “Circle of Life” from “The Lion King“, but when I looked up the lyrics, there wasn’t any similarity at all (except for the final line), so that idea’s out.

    On sentry-go, to chase monotony
    He exercises of his brains
    That is, assuming that he’s got any”

    The joke is that the sentry is trying to be philosophical, but is just proving that he hasn’t “got any”.

    But, there’s just enough in what he says that makes us think there’s something more to the joke, if only we could figure it out. There isn’t, but we keep trying. Wizard of Id now has its own Cow Tools strip.
